BMW X5
The exterior of the BMW X5.
Whether stationary or on the move, the dominant character of the BMW X5 never fails to make an immediate impression. Its convex-concave surfaces perfectly support its generous proportions and muscular wheel arches. Dynamic light and shadow progressions demonstrate elegance and presence with their robust appearance and clear structure. Self-confidence has never been so appealing.

The interior of the BMW X5.
Created with functional elegance in mind, the precise structuring of the cockpit supports the BMW X5’s superior driving experience. The instrument panel, designed for intuitive use, is inclined slightly towards the front seat, perfectly positioned in the driver’s optimum field of vision. The powerful and elegant ambiance is rounded off by light and shadow contrasts and sculptural stepping which further emphasise the generosity of this captivating interior.

Spaciousness in the BMW X5.
Anyone stepping into the generous interior space of the new BMW X5 will immediately be struck by its immense space and storage options. A five-seater as standard, the BMW X5 is also available with an optional folding third row of seats to convert it into a seven-seater. The storage capacity of 620 litres can be extended to 1,750 litres by folding down the second row of seats. This allows even larger objects or sports equipment to be stowed easily.

The eight-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW X5 4.8i.
The V8 in the BMW X5 4.8i sets the benchmark for responsiveness, power and sophistication. Technical refinements such as Valvetronic, the double-Vanos camshaft control system and a fully-variable air intake unit enable maximum power delivery for maximum SAV performance. Producing 261 kW (355 hp), the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds. What’s more, this power is delivered with remarkable effortlessness and silky smooth refinement.
Fuel consumption / CO2 emissions
Combined fuel consumption: 12.0 l/100 km

The straight six-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW X5 3.0si.
One of the most advanced engines of its kind anywhere in the world. The 3-litre engine under the lightweight aluminium-magnesium alloy crankcase in the BMW X5 3.0si produces 200 kW (272 hp) and a torque of 315 Nm at 2,750 rpm. And if the figures aren’t convincing enough, its smooth power output and remarkable responsiveness will be.
Fuel consumption / CO2 emissions
Combined fuel consumption: 10.2 l/100 km
CO2 emissions: 244 g/km

The straight six-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW X5 3.0d and 3.0sd.
Excellent performance combines with equally excellent fuel consumption values to produce smooth responsiveness and muscular power. The straight six-cylinder engine in the BMW X5 3.0d with common rail direct fuel injection, four-valve technology and turbocharger produces an impressive 173 kW (235 hp) and a top torque of no less than 520 Nm. Elastic acceleration is another speciality - from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.1 seconds. The BMW X5 3.0sd needs just 7.0 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h with a top speed of 235 km/h and 286 hp.
Fuel consumption / CO2 emissions
Combined fuel consumption: 8.1 to 8.2 l/100 km

Further information about the official fuel consumption and the official specific CO2 emissions for new passenger automobiles can be obtained from “The Passenger Car (Fuel Consumption and CO2 Emissions Information) Regulations”, which are available free of charge at all sales outlets and at DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern, Germany.

Six-speed transmission in the BMW X5.
The perfectly-spaced gear ratios of the responsive six-speed transmission system ensure that the vast power of the BMW X5 engine is transmitted to the drive wheels with maximum efficiency. With the Steptronic function, gears are shifted very quickly and smoothly for optimum performance on the road.

xDrive - the intelligent all-wheel drive system on the BMW X5.
Thanks to xDrive, the X5 maintains perfect traction even on difficult road conditions. This intelligent system uses its Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect the early signs of instability and reacts instantly as needed. It distributes engine power flexibly and variably to each axle: the axle with the greatest traction receives the most power, delivering optimum road-holding, perfect performance on bends and excellent forward thrust.

Adaptive Drive in the BMW X5.
Athletic performance and comfort are no longer mutually exclusive: Adaptive Drive offers outstandingly dynamic driving, optimum cornering and smooth load balancing. At the touch of a button, the chassis set-up can be stiffened to provide even greater agility. By actively suppressing the vehicle’s natural tendency to roll when cornering at speed, Adaptive Drive means excellent handling for the driver and noticeably higher levels of comfort for rear-seat passengers.

Double-wishbone front axle on the BMW X5.
In conjunction with the wider track, the new double-wishbone front axle brings with it plenty of tangible benefits. In addition to outstanding handling and improved stability, comfort is also enhanced as less vibration is transmitted to the steering wheel. This results in a smoother ride, reduced understeer and increased driving comfort on longer journeys.
Active Steering in the BMW X5.
Razor-sharp steering precision at high speeds. Effortless manoeuvring in and out of tight parking spaces. The optional Active Steering feature of the BMW X5 adapts the amount of steering angle to suit the driving situation. The lower the vehicle speed, the more precise the steering. For a more intense connection with the road and heightened pleasure behind the wheel.
Run-flat tyres on the BMW X5.
Say goodbye to roadside tyre changes. Thanks to special side-wall reinforcement, the BMW X5’s standard run-flat tyres are capable of being driven a long distance even after a puncture. The benefits make themselves felt far beyond that. The need for a spare tyre is eliminated, reducing weight and freeing boot space on every single journey. In addition, the standard Tyre Pressure Indicator (TPI) warns the driver whenever there is a drop in tyre pressure.
Cornering lights on the BMW X5.
In combination with Adaptive Headlights, the BMW X5 now comes with cornering lights. When cornering, the system automatically switches the corresponding inner fog light to dipped or main beam. An additional reflector in the fog light illuminates an area at an angle of up to 90° to the car, allowing pedestrians, cyclists and obstacles to be seen earlier and more clearly.

Gear selector in the BMW X5.
The new BMW X5 comes with a completely new electronic gear selector switch. Modern and sporty in design, its ergonomic shape makes it simple to operate. The left-hand shift gate operates the sports automatic mode to allow semi-automatic changes between the six gears. The right-hand shift gate controls the usual fully automatic settings: Drive (D), Neutral (N) and Reverse (R). Park (P) is now activated by pressing a button on the gear selector switch.

The iDrive control concept on the BMW X5.
The cockpit of a commercial aircraft has around 400 controls. And not one of them operates the CD player. With the iDrive system, you have control over much more than your music. The Controller puts cabin comfort features such as the navigation system and telephone right at your fingertips. Frequently used features can be assigned to one of the eight favourite buttons. The Control Display, optimally situated above the central console, informs and guides you with ease leaving your gaze, and your thoughts, free to focus on the pleasure of driving.
Head-Up Display in the BMW X5.
An optional feature in the BMW X5, Head-Up Display presents important information directly in the driver’s viewing field. A unit in the dashboard projects the data onto the windscreen as a clear, easy-to-read image, adjusted for ambient light conditions, with a focal point just above the bonnet. The height of the display can even be adjusted so that information is always projected in the driver’s optimal field of vision. Information can be read faster, and the driver’s attention is never distracted from the road ahead.
Tailgate in the BMW X5.
Making loading easier, the two-part tailgate provides excellent access to the luggage compartment. When open, people as tall as 1.85 metres can stand up straight beneath it. When the lower section of the tailgate is open, a flat surface is created that allows luggage to be loaded with ease. And best of all, a mere touch of the remote control button or the push button release triggers the tailgate to rise as if lifted by an invisible hand.
Active and passive safety in the BMW X5.
Its intelligent combination of safety elements makes the BMW X5 one of the safest vehicles on the road. A precisely designed network of suspension, engine management, brakes and tyres, plus an array of electronic sensors, work in unison to keep the BMW X5 safely on track, even in the most demanding situations. The standard airbag package and the restraint system, featuring seatbelt tensioners and force limiters, deliver split-second protection for the occupants should a collision be unavoidable. And the sturdy bodyshell complies with all relevant crash safety standards worldwide, including with regard to the third-row seats.
