A car cannot be driven without a reliable braking system. That’s why it is also important that you consider having it checked and cleaned. See the latest rate of this service among auto shops.
Price
In the Philippines, the cost of brake cleaning starts at Php 700 for the labor charge. However, consumables like sprays and paste are not yet included in the final bill. In most cases, a sedan type will cost you around Php 1,200 for the overall cleaning procedure just like what I had to pay.

Where Can I Have The Service?
You can go to any auto shops of your choice. In some service bays of gasoline stations, cleaning will also be an available service. You may ask the mechanic if they have a package where change oil is the primary service.
Shell for example has a promo where you can have them checked and adjusted. This will also include the adjustment of the hand brake if it is too high to activate.
On the other hand, you can also go to Petron, Caltex or Seaoil service bays (when available) and request for a quote.
Other auto shops have a dedicated service for cleaning. You can request a quote from Motech or Rapide if you wish to have your car maintained.
How often should I clean and adjust the brakes of a car? You will be able to identify some obvious symptoms while driving. If you feel unnecessary function noises or visible degradation of the parts, it is time for cleaning.
On other hand, some manufacturers recommend checking or replacing the pads every 20,000 kilometers or as necessary.
Other Concerns
While you are at the service station, you may also have other problems checked by the mechanic. Some of the common complaints of drivers include:
- Screeching noise when breaking
- Non-activation
- Rusty pads and discs
- Vibrations
- Pulling sensation
Is it a Quick Service?
In most cases, it will take about 2 hours for the cleaning service to finish. The mechanic will have to remove the tires and other components like pads, drums and caliper to thoroughly clean the inner parts of the system.
When to Clean Them?
When I went to a gas station for PMS, the brakes were also inspected. The package I availed includes change oil and basic inspection and adjustment only. It was the time that the mechanic told me that the noise was coming from the dirty brake system in the front.
Maybe the right time to have your brakes cleaned is when you notice a change in its performance. As for me, the main concern was the sharp screeching noise like metals rubbing each other. I also had the brakes cleaned during my PMS service.
This post from Philstar even indicated a once a year cleaning. It actually depends on your preference if there is some noticeable decrease in efficiency.
