Brake Pad Replacement For Cars with Screeching Sound

Last Updated on September 10, 2024 by autopilipinas

Nawalan ng preno” We hear this phrase countless times especially after an accident. If you notice that your pads are thin, it is time to replace them now. Auto shop prices for brake pad replacement may range from Php 2,000 to Php 3,000 for the front discs.

The labor cost may start from Php 700 per pair but a package deal includes the brake pad itself.

Depending on your car, it is a good idea to know the estimated price of the pads both for front and back. Casa installed brake pads may cost a little higher since there is also quality inspection. Here is the list of average prices of brake pads in the Philippines that I have checked over price lists.

  • Toyota Wigo – Php 3000
  • Toyota Vios – Php 3800
  • Toyota Altis – Php 4000
  • Toyota Fortuner – Php 4200
  • Suzuki Ciaz – Php 3500 (non suzuki pads)
  • Mitsubishi Mirage – php 3200
  • Mitsubishi Montero – Php 5000
  • Honda City – Php 4800
  • Honda BRV – Php 3800

You can actually buy your pads elsewhere and have it installed by a mechanic. This is where the Php 700 labor is applied. But of course, you can still find lower rates when you scout various auto shops.

OEM vs Original

You have the option to use OEM brake pads or those coming from your car manufacturer. Note that OEM may be cheaper and you can find other brands in terms of quality.

Types

I had my brake pads replaced at least twice since I bought my car. Although they are not very expensive, they are still providing good braking ability. Here are some of the most common types offered to me by the auto shop:

  • Ceramic – quieter with reduced brake dusts
  • Organic Metallic – more comfortable braking, stronger stopping power
  • Semi metallic – good braking over different temperature ranges

Some shops can also offer additional services including but not limited to:

  • Brake cleaning with foam
  • Adjustment of the braking system (pads, caliper, boots)
  • Diagnostics
  • Noise reduction and elimination
  • Inspections of drum brakes (if available)

Brake pads are among the most critical parts of a vehicle when it comes to safety. As part of the overall braking system, losing its integrity will compromise your ability to stop the car. That’s why I suggest that you pay attention to them and identify signs for them to be replaced.
