Brands in the Philippines
During the wheel alignment procedure, the technician may already inspect all four of them. If they are due for replacement, you may choose from any of the available brands in the market. Some examples include Westlake, Michelin, Yokohama and Goodyear.
My stock tires from Casa were Bridgestone. I think it is one of the more expensive brands. Now, I use Otani as a replacement. You can choose any brand that your budget permits you.
When to Change Them?
Replacing mine was actually a safety issue and not for aesthetics. The stock items that I have have become smoother on the sides, indicating loss of thread. When I had a PMS, the mechanic also pointed out that they have cracks which could be a natural sign of wear and tear. That’s when I realized they are due for replacement.
To sum it up, here are some indicators that you should be aware of:
- The grooves are more shallow (mababaw)
- Cracks are visible in the sides
- Smoother and shinier sides (also in the middle)
- You see wires or threads coming out
- There is a bulge part
- If you have been using them for more than 5 years, they definitely need replacement
To be sure, just have yours inspected by an expert at any auto shops you prefer.
How to Choose?
It does not matter. Even if I tell you to get this brand or that, your budget and personal preferences will prevail. One tip that I got from the shop is to ask for the expiration date. Yes, believe it or not, they have printed manufacturing and expiration dates just like foods.
It is because of the materials, the rubber. They also have shelf life that could compromise the quality and reliability of the tires.
